Civil Celebrant

Ready for 2012!

Taylor Made Ceremonies for all Life’s Celebrations

What a thrill to be launching a new arm to my business as a Civil Celebrant in 2012. Something I have had in the back of my mind for quite a few years is now a reality.

We all know that we have the choice between a religious Wedding Ceremony and a Civil Ceremony but it’s not well known that we also have that choice for funerals, baby namings, re-affirmation of vows, commitment ceremonies, pet funerals, memorials, why I can even name a ship!

Ritual and Ceremony are becoming more popular as part of modern day life and I have always had a quiet but avid interest in all things ceremonial, spiritual and ritual. Learning even more as I studied and researched for my Certificate IV in Celebrancy.

Having already conducted more than half a dozen funerals I have learned what I knew all along, the research and learning about someone’s life, then creating a service that will reflect and revere that person as well as celebrate who they were, and still are in their loved ones eyes, is the best part of the process for me. Writing is something I have enjoyed for many years as a Producer of Shows and Events, this is something that flows naturally. And when you get a quiet and sincere thank you afterwards it’s a great reward.

Coming from a long background in the Entertainment industry I welcome the unique, quirky, original and even outlandish. Recently I conducted a funeral for a very well known transgender personality. It was in a Church, alongside an Archdeacon and we blended the religious aspect with Maori cultural tradition combined with hilarious stories and tales from Drag Queens to the more retrospective sharing of feelings from gentle natured relatives. We even saw the hula performed in front of the bright red (full gloss) coffin. It was incredible, wonderful and moving with music and singing, celebration and deep mourning. Three days later I was in a small chapel with just a dozen or so in attendance doing a much more sedate and simple service. Everything has perspective and it’s never dull. So yes, ask me if you have an idea that seems outside the square, or if there is an aspect you really feel strongly about. If it is legal and doesn’t offend I will certainly try to accommodate your wishes.

NB: As yet I am still waiting for my registration by the Attorney General’s Department so that I can legally officiate weddings, so please drop by again soon as I will keep this page updated so we can all celebrate.

"To those of you who don't know, my mother passed away a few weeks ago. I would like to sincerely thank my friend Lizzie Taylor for the wonderful job she did as Mums' celebrant at the funeral. I could not have managed all the arrangements and the day without her and David. You made it very easy for me."
